Basic Plastering Skills

Duration:   5 days
This course is designed to give a grounding in plastering techniques and materials. It is primarily aimed at those who already have some experience in a trowel occupation such as plastering or taping and jointing, and who wish to improve their skills and knowledge of plastering in general.

Trainees will receive instruction on the selection of appropriate plastering materials for a given task and the application of plasters to appropriate standards. The course will also include instruction in Health and Safety matters, and reference to all relevant British Standards and Codes of Practice. It will cover traditional two coat plastering, skim plastering to plasterboards and traditional sand and cement work
Training Objectives
On completion of the training the trainee will:

  • have a good working knowledge of health and safety requirements for plastering, including correct personal protective clothing where applicable.
  • be fully aware of the various aspects of the application of plasters, covering:
  • Tools used for mixing and application and mixing methods
  • Compatibility of plasters to a range of substrates
  • Effects of high and low temperatures
  • Uses of metal beads and angles, and ribbed metal lathing
  • Potential application problems
  • basic awareness of the behaviour and characteristics of various plasters
Instructors' Qualification
Knauf Technical Instructors are all time served tradespersons in plastering, drylining and associated trades, and have received full training and had extensive experience in our industry.
All Knauf Technical Instructors are approved NVQ assessors for Drylining and Plastering, and the Knauf Training Centre is accredited as suitable for the delivery of training and assessment to NVQ standards.
Achievement Measurement
Trainees will be assessed during the course as the instructors observe and discuss their progress and offer advice. An attendance certificate will be issued to all those who successfully complete the course.
