When plans were drawn for 12 luxury cinemas in the Ocean Terminal quayside retail and leisure complex at Leith, Edinburgh, a high performance drylining system from Knauf Drywall was selected for the acoustic solution, and to provide excellent fire resistance.
Drylining contractors Carlton Ceilings and Partitions (CCP) installed Knauf Drywall’s high performance twin frame partition system between the cinemas. This 400mm construction provides two hours’ fire resistance and reduces airborne sound by 74dB. CCP Managing Director Richard Janes says: “All the walls were acoustically tested – and all met the specification.”
Because of the height of the walls – up to 17 metres – the twin frame partitions are additionally supported by Knauf Steel Building Systems (SBS) - cold-rolled lightweight steel components for use in loadbearing systems.
The high-technology cinemas provide entertainment for more than 2,700 people at a time – the 12 cinemas seat from 138 to 372. It’s screens, rated the biggest in Scotland, are now part of the Vue Cinemas chain.
