Wimpey Homes

Project:   Woodmere Development, Ivybridge, Devon
Developer:   Wimpey Homes, South West Region
Main Contractor:   M J Stevens, Exetertland Ltd

Project Profile

Woodmere, lying between Plymouth and Exeter, is a development of over sixty 2, 3 and 4 bedroom properties. Knauf Roomform was used on the five new house types which include terraced, semi and detached houses.

These house designs are the first to incorporate the Knauf Roomform system which meets the specification requirements of Wimpey Homes. Customer satisfaction was critical in the decision to move over to the system: the system exceeds the NHBC requirement for sound insulation.

Technical Summary

Knauf Roomform Wallboard and Roomform Moistureshield are manufactured in accordance with BS 1230: Part 1: 1985 and are classified as type 1 and 3 respectively. The partitioning system should be installed in compliance with the recommendations of BS 8212: 1995 (Code of Practice for Dry Lining and Partitioning Using Gypsum Plasterboard) and BS 8000: Part 8: 1994 (Workmanship on Building Sites, Code of Practice for Plasterboard Partitions and Drylinings).

Description

A high quality internal partitioning system, Knauf Roomform is a non-loadbearing method of room division in domestic accommodation. Used throughout this Wimpey Homes development to create 75mm internal walls, the system comprises Roomform Studs set out at 450mm centres and located in 50mm U Channels top and bottom. 900mm wide and 12.5mm thick Knauf Roomform Wallboards are fixed to the metal frames. A moisture resistant version, Knauf Roomform Moistureshield, was used in all bathroom and en suite facility walls in the houses.

Excellent Acoustic Performance

Wimpey Homes required a partitioning system that met customer needs for sound insulation; Knauf Roomform exceeds the NHBC sound reduction requirement without the need for any additional insulation.

Rigidity and Durability

Not only are the plasterboards themselves designed to provide high impact resistance and durability due to their denser core, but the supporting metal framework, with studs set at 450mm centres, is extremely rigid. Furthermore, the system offers fire resistance of half an hour. These features were particularly important to Wimpey Homes.

Speed and Ease of Installation

A simple system that is easy to use and build enabled the project to be kept on schedule. The white and scuff-resistant paper liner on the plasterboards made decoration straightforward.
