Hospital redevelopment 'in the hands of locals'
2010-07-26
Locals from Swansea Bay are being given the opportunity to dictate renovations on Singleton hospital, which is undergoing work to improve its eco-friendly credentials and make it a more attractive environment for patients and staff. The South Wales Evening Post writes insulation is to be added to the building and the installation of drywall at the same time could be a cost-effective way to ensure a healthy atmosphere by providing odour-free air purification.
Paul Stauber, director of planning at the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board, remarked: "We are pumping in millions of pounds in the next 18 months to improve the external fabric."
Residents will have the chance to submit their views on the redevelopment of the health facility until July 30th.
Experts are hoping the makeover will save over £11,000 in energy bills every year.
As well as internal redesign, the local authority plans to replace the current windows with double glazed, solar tinted glass, to further improve the carbon footprint of the structure.
