£350 million shopping centre development begins in Leeds
2010-07-22
Work on a major new retail park development in Leeds has begun, as the £350 million Leeds Trinity shopping centre gets back on track following delays during the economic downturn. The project may inject much-needed cash into Yorkshire, one of the regions hardest hit by the recession and subsequent rising unemployment.
In construction, 1,000 jobs will be created, while 3,000 retail posts and other roles will be available once the development is finished.
Parent company Land Securities revealed it has already confirmed lettings for 43 per cent of the space in the new mall, with a further four per cent in the process of contract finalisation and 12 per cent under negotiation.
Due to be completed in spring 2013, the building site is the first major shopping centre project to get under way after many were put on hold as the recession gripped the UK and damaged investor and retail confidence.
