Air purification 'to improve occupational health and safety'

2010-07-19
Air purification, offered by construction materials such as drywall, is important to improve conditions in both professional environments and the home, according to a recent article.

The Virgin Islands Civil Service Association (Vicsa) claims indoor pollution can be as much as five times greater than outdoor, as air is not able to circulate and often systems are not in place to decontaminate the atmosphere.

Drywall purifies the air in private residences and may be beneficial in public buildings where odour-free cleansing would improve comfort and health, such as hospitals and gyms.

Vicsa argues a poor air exchange rate between the outside and inside of structures can increase the concentration of harmful particles and lead to "sick building syndrome".

A new European Union-funded study of indoor air pollution is to examine the problem in schools across 22 member states and will be conducted by experts in asthma and childhood allergies, reveals the Malta Independent. ADNFCR-8000206-ID-19896130-ADNFCR
