Property group builds second green hotel
2010-07-16
An environmentally-friendly property is being built by hotel and restaurant group Whitbread, due for completion in late autumn 2010. Drywall can be fitted in new hotels, providing an odour-free layer that helps to purify the air and could make guests' stay more pleasant.
The company opened "the UK's first green budget hotel" in 2008 and the new project adheres to its Good Together corporate responsibility strategy, which aims to reduce waste created by its commercial properties and encourage responsible sourcing of raw materials such as coffee.
A refurbishment programme to make the hotels more environmentally-friendly could be a good opportunity to fit drywall to existing structures, as the group carries out renovations to meet its target of lowering energy consumption by 26 per cent in 2020.
Many businesses may be considering ways to reduce their carbon footprint, as government measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are set to include tax levies and legal enforcement for those fail to mitigate their environmental impact.
