Wales set to get new hospital

2010-07-09
A new hospital due to open this autumn in Ebbw Vale, south Wales, has been visited by members of the local Community Health Council and the Health Board.

When complete, the £53.7 million project will have three wards and room for more than 100 patients, reports the Gwent Gazette.

Drywall could be used to make hospital environments healthier, providing benefits such as air purification and a smell-free atmosphere that may improve conditions for staff and patients.

David Jenkins, chair of Aneurin Bevan Health Board, told the publication: "We are now at a very exciting stage in the new hospital development where the artist's impressions are suddenly being transformed into reality."

A mental health unit, birthing suite and emergency care centre will be among the facilities available at the new hospital, which locals may hope will improve healthcare provision in Ebbw Vale and the surrounding area.

Morriston Hospital in Swansea was recently reported by the South Wales Evening Post to have retained its status as a specialist in burns and plastic surgery, making it a regional centre of excellence for Wales and the south-west. ADNFCR-8000206-ID-19883308-ADNFCR
