DIY 'should not induce fear'

People should not be fearful of doing DIY, an expert has said.Resident DIY and car care presenter on JML Andrew Bernard has argued that people should not be scared of carrying out DIY tasks.
"DIY really is easy and the tip I always give people is; it's an old cliche, but safety first, DIY second," he said.
He added that people simply need to think about their projects and plan them out before making a start.
"If you have messed it up then you learn from that mistake and you go again," he said.
While in certain areas, such as electrics, there are strict regulations to be followed, meaning that calling in a professional may be necessary, other tasks can be done by householders, and following simple advice can make the tasks simple to understand, he suggested.
Research released by Santander earlier this month revealed that some 39 per cent of homeowners are planning to make some form of home improvement over the course of the next year.
