Energy policy 'key for next parliament'

2010-04-15
Successful energy policy will be a key aspect of the next parliament, the Construction Products Association believes.

The organisation has recently launched its Key Priorities for the New Government document, and noted that all political parties need to take steps to ensure that energy policy questions are addressed.

Michael Ankers, chief executive of the association, said: "If we are to see a sustained economic recovery, a secure long term supply of energy at competitive prices is absolutely essential."

He added that unless suppliers and manufacturers have confidence in the next government's approach to the issue, further investment in the UK may not be forthcoming, thereby undermining not only the construction and manufacturing sectors, but also the country's economic recovery.

The major political parties have this week released their manifestos, with each outlining their intended course of action with regards to energy usage and efficiency improvements in the country.
