Change of government 'would have housing market benefits'
2010-04-12
Whether or not the present government has contributed to the current state of the housing market, a change of leadership would be a positive thing, an expert has said.David Amstell, founder of Briffy.com, argued that a change of power would bring positive perceptions of change for the market - and that this would be the case even if the Tories were currently in power.
Such a move would make people "feel like something positive is happening," he said.
He added that the market tends to quieten down whenever an election is called, so there could be an upswing in market activity following the vote on May 6th.
"The housing market, in my opinion, doesn't depend on the market; it depends on money availability and confidence that the country is going to continue prospering," he said, noting that the state of the sector is not reliant on which party is in power.
Mr Amstell's comments follow research from FindaProperty.com which suggested that 39.1 per cent of house hunters believe a Conservative win at the next election will improve the housing market.
