New Crossrail stop touted

2008-11-11
Further construction on the anticipated Crossrail rail network project may be necessary, after the government and Transport for London have stated that the train line may be extended, reports the BBC.

The £16 billion rail project that will connect London to Essex, Kent, Berkshire and Heathrow Airport received the go-ahead from Parliament in July.

However, the 74-mile long route may now be extended after Gravesham Council was approached to safeguard land, as the route planners may want to add a new stop at Denton in Gravesend.

Gravesham Borough Council leader Mike Snelling has welcomed the proposal but would like the idea to become more guaranteed.

He said: "The prospect of Crossrail terminating at Gravesend has enormous potential.

"But the problem is that it is, as it stands, a vague idea and we would urge that it becomes a firm commitment."

Current plans see one end of the Crossrail line start at Maidenhead in Kent, move through London, before terminating at Shenfield in Essex.ADNFCR-8000206-ID-18870911-ADNFCR
