A business centre in West Devon has been shortlisted for a green construction award, which it could add to its tally of prizes it won last month. The Okehampton Business Centre, which is expected to save 50 tonnes of carbon emissions each year, could win the Best Small Renewable Energy Scheme at the South West Green Energy Awards next month.
It recently won an award of excellence from the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Best Sustainability Project in the Local Authority Building Control Awards.
The centre also received the highest award excellent - from the Civil Engineering Environmental Quality Assessment and award Scheme for going beyond legal and environmental minimums.
Its building materials were selected for their low environmental impact.
Tracy Windemer, West Devon Borough Council civil engineer, said: "The contractors had to adhere to a strict environmental management plan. A percentage of the scoring is based on the construction phase and Rok, our contractor, has performed exceptionally well."
In 2016 all new buildings will have to be zero-carbon.
