Insulation advised ahead of EPC deadline
2008-07-18
Advice to landlords has been offered ahead of the October deadline to acquire energy performance certificates (EPC) by one industry body. The National Landlords Association (NLA) has advised landlords to improve their energy efficiency by installing insulation in their properties.
All landlords will be required to supply an energy performance certificate to prospective tenants from October, prompting Elizabeth Brogan, senior policy officer at the NLA, to suggest insulation.
Ms Brogan said: "If you have a more modern property but have cavity walls then insulating those can reduce the energy bills quite considerably."
She added that loft insulation is also effective and that some landlords may consider dry lining the walls.
In addition, the representative suggested condensing combination boilers and double glazing as other energy saving methods.
The Landlords Energy Saving Allowance, a form of tax rebate, will come into force in October to encourage landlords to take energy saving measures in their properties.
