Wembley regeneration 'on hold'
2008-06-27
A large part of the £2.5 billion Wembley regeneration scheme has been put on hold, according to building.co.uk.Builders Quintain Estates has apparently instructed architects on the Northern Lands scheme to stop work ahead of meetings next week that will decide which elements of the scheme will advance, and when.
A spokesperson for Quintain told building.co.uk: "It would be categorically incorrect to say that this was anything to do with the credit crunch.
"We've agreed with Brent council to put a civic centre in the middle of the Northern Lands site and that has changed all of our plans."
But an unnamed source who is closely involved with the scheme informed the website: "They're worrying about the core demand for the scheme. I think they're having a crisis of confidence."
The projects involved in the Northern Lands scheme feature two 14-storey blocks of 336 private apartments designed by Hamiltons Architects and three further residential schemes.
All are expected to have up-to-date insulation to conform with new government guidelines.
Wembley stadium re-opened for business last year after many delays.
