Regeneration 'biggest impact of Olympics'

2008-06-26
Regeneration will be the biggest impact of the Olympics, according to a study into the 'muted' impact of the Games.

The Financial Times has reported that research conducted by rating agency Standard & Poor's has concluded that as the capital is already a big attraction for visitors the Olympics will only have a limited effect on the tourist trade.

But although the agency labelled regeneration planning as being "insufficient" it predicted that construction and regeneration work will have the biggest impact.

One area that will benefit from the London 2012 regeneration is the Lower Lea Valley in east London.

The building of one of the largest new urban parks in Europe in 150 years will bring new homes for Londoners, vastly improved transport links and a lasting legacy of world-class sports facilities available to the local community.

The new homes will have to conform to recent government legislation drawn up to ensure that there is adequate insulation provided - guaranteeing energy efficiency and saving on bills for the new tenants.
